धर्मशाला टेस्ट का दूसरा दिन देवदत्त पड़िक्कल के लिए खास रहा. लंच के बाद भारतीय टीम ने पुरानी गेंद से रिवर्स स्विंग के कारण दो ओवर में रोहित शर्मा और शुबमन गिल के अहम विकेट गंवा दिए. पडिक्कल पहली बार टेस्ट क्रिकेट खेल रहे थे और घबराए हुए थे. लगातार दो असफलताओं के बाद उन्हें अपनी टीम को इन असफलताओं से बचाने के लिए भी मजबूर होना पड़ा।

उनका पहला चौका भी बाहरी छोर से आया, जो उनकी घबराहट को दर्शाता है। पहले तो उन्होंने संभलकर खेला और फिर जब उन्हें कमजोर गेंदें मिलीं तो उन्होंने पूरे मैदान पर गेंदें फेंकी। उन्होंने शोएब बशीर की ढीली गेंद पर बोल्ड होने से पहले 103 गेंदों पर 65 रन बनाए, जिसमें 10 चौके और एक छक्का शामिल था।
